Pioneers win one, drop three in full week of play

GENTRY -- The Pioneer baseball team scored three runs in the bottom for the first, four in the fourth, and one in the seventh for an 8-7 victory over Providence Academy on Monday, April 8.

Gentry's runs came on 12 hits in the game, with Bennett Roberts getting two hits, scoring twice and driving in three.

In addition to Gentry's loss to Farmington on April 9, the Pioneers suffered a 9-2 loss to Greenland on Thursday and a 9-1 loss to Shiloh Christian on Friday.

With the score tied at two each after 2½ innings, Greenland scored five runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth for the 9-2 victory. Greenland's runs came on six hits in the game.

The Pioneers had four hits.

Connor Shockley had three hits and drove in four runs to lead Shiloh Christian to a 9-1 Conference win on Friday at Springdale.

Shockley gave the Saints the lead with a two-run single, then scored on Jack Gibbs' groundout to make it 3-1. He added an RBI single as part of a three-run fifth, then added another RBI single as part of a three-run sixth.

Shiloh had just five hits but took advantage of six walks and five Gentry errors.

Three Saints pitchers combined to limit the Pioneers to three hits and struck out 10.
